Last night, local magician, Mika Snow of the Menictah Nation, performed her magic act for a small audience at the Sandy Shore occult store, the Crystal Corner. Crystal Corner owner, Melody Kytel, converted her shop into a small theatre by moving her rollable display shelves to the sides of the store, freeing up a large space in the middle area of store for forty to fifty seats. Mika Snow, and her husband, Chief Johnny Silvercloud, along with a few other helpers, set up a small stage with a backdrop curtain, a sound and light system, fog machine, and a seemingly miraculous light-board. A few of the more impressive tricks included appearing and re-appearing statues, a magic pot that sprouted growing plants, and a set of metal rings that floated above Mika's head. These were accompanied by Native American sounds and a truly spectacular light-board showing an endless array of images associated with the tricks. Mika peppered her presentation with an ongoing history lesson of the Menictah Nation and its relationship to the Sandy Shore community.
Peter King Steals the Show
The final trick of the show involved a disappearing box. Snow challenged Peter King, president of the Elemental Oil Company, to "volunteer" for the trick. When she asked Mr. King to come up to the stage, the audience erupted in applause encouraging his participation. Though King looked as if he'd rather be anywhere else on earth, he put on his best game face and joined Snow on the stage. This reporter could see him whisper something to Ms. Snow, but this reporter was too far away to hear what he said. Snow's face remained unresponsive to his message, but we can only imagine what he said to her.
One Heck of a Trick
When all the spinning and flashing died away, Snow called out to Peter and opened the door. Instead of the president of the Elemental Oil Company and one of the richest men in America, there stood a life-size statue of the tycoon, dressed in a Native American buck skin outfit and pointing an arrow from a drawn bow at the audience. Peter King had disappeared and was not seen after the show.
Local Reporter Misses Out on Interview
This reporter had hoped to interview Mr. King about the loss of his court case earlier that afternoon. In the case of the Menictah Nation vs. Elemental Oil brought to stop the oil company from drilling for oil in the Migwa Forest, the jury found for the plaintiffs. King attended the reading of the verdict and sat stone faced as the jury read their decision. After the trial, King said that he was not defeated and vowed to carry on with his plans. The assumption is that Elemental Oil will appeal the verdict, though this reporter had hoped to press him further on his plans. Unfortunately, Mika Snow's last trick worked too well, and Mr. King was gone for the night. Hopefully, we can interview him regarding his plans for the Migwa Forest when he later reappears. For now, we have to salve our wounded pride with the balm of a truly magical night in the Crystal Corner.
